Diving along Abu Slul in the Saudi Red Sea offers an exhilarating experience for advanced divers looking to explore the unique underwater landscapes and marine life. Divers flock to two Abu Slul sites, which put experienced swimmers through a challenging wall dive but then reward them with stunning underwater vistas and an abundance of sea creatures.
The first site offers a dive time of 39 minutes, with a water temperature of around 30°C and excellent visibility that extends up to 35m. With a medium current, divers can reach depths of 33m or more. The site features a shallow crack, between 2 and 2.5m wide and 4 to 6m deep, which provides a thrilling swim-through experience. The most captivating aspects of this site are the massive anemones, both common and carpet varieties. Divers will also discover a short wall that drops to 18m, followed by a small plateau at 20m that leads to a sharp slope. At the southern end, there is a long, healthy reef saddle at a depth of 24m.
For those looking for a slightly longer dive, the route at site 2 will keep divers busy for approximately 50 minutes. The water temperature here is slightly warmer at 31°C, with no current, making for a serene diving experience. Visibility remains excellent, reaching up to 35m, and divers can explore depths of 40m or more. The site is characterised by a wall that descends straight down to 50m, with the most vibrant part of the reef extending up to 10m. The marine life at Site 2 is diverse, including jackfish, sweetlips, barracuda and nudibranchs.
Whether navigating the swim-throughs of Site 1 or admiring the abundant species at site 2, the adventures at Abu Slul in the Saudi Red Sea will undoubtedly create lasting memories and fuel the passion for diving.
The sites at Abu Slul are best recommended for morning or noon dives. The optimal sunlight and cooler temperatures mean that not only are marine life likely to be more active, but you’ll also have time for extra dives.
