The rocky islet of Jubarah is surrounded by a breathtakingly coral belt. Notable for its abundance of birds, who swoop down to the sea in search of food, the marine life found at Jubarah Island is nothing short of spectacular. Schools of colourful fish put on dazzling displays beneath the emerald-green waters and divers can expect to see whitetip sharks and the magnificent silky shark.
The underwater terrain of the three dive sites is equally diverse, offering majestic coral pinnacles close to the shore as well as the exciting drop off area located on the northerly outskirts of the main reef. Reaching depths of 40m and featuring a medium current, the reefs here can occasionally make for challenging swimming.
As such, the dive sites on Jubarah Island are better suited for advanced divers who are confident that their skills can take them safely through the location’s many underwater ledges, channels and caves. However, this site is also perfect for freedivers.
The divers that do make it down, however, will be rewarded by an underwater wonderland set in balmy waters of 31°C, while the more than 25m visibility all but guarantees some spectacular marine life sightseeing and the chance for some gorgeous photographs.
A vibrant mix of hard and soft corals create interesting textures along the reef walls and there is an abundance
of red everywhere you look. Branches
of pink, feathery carnation corals fuse with orange sea fans and white anemones to form huge bouquets
of colour.
Shining a spotlight on these colonies will reveal shoals of dancing orange anthias, angelfish and curious jackfish. Along the way you’ll observe majestic barracudas, massive humphead parrotfish, and a plethora of other fascinating marine life
The possibility of spotting dolphins frolicking at the water’s surface or gliding serenely through the depths make this location one of the region’s greatest.
Some species of jackfish, also called trevally, are known to hunt and eat small sea birds by launching themselves out of the water to catch them mid air.
