Nestled in the crystal-clear waters of Saudi’s Red Sea, Semer Island sits just north of the Farasan Islands and is a hidden gem that promises an unforgettable diving experience. The island is home to two remarkable dive sites that are easily accessible for beginner and advanced divers and take around 50 minutes each to complete.

The underwater currents in the area are mild, making it an ideal diving location for beginners and experts alike. With a visibility of approximately 15m, both dives utilise the drop-offs that surrounds the island, providing divers with an unparalleled view of stunning coral formations and the diverse range of marine life that inhabits the sandy plateau below.

The two dives in the Semer Island area offer a similar experience, so you can’t go wrong either way! Shallow drops off to approximately 9m are then followed by deeper drops that take you down over 30m to the sandy plateaus below. Both drop-offs are spotted with coral gardens which are home to a variety of marine life.

Of note is the eye-catching crown-of-thorns sea star. These sea stars are instantly recognisable due to the large, red spines which protrude from their arms.

In addition, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the spectacular table corals, named because of their broad horizontal branches that allow them to bask in the nourishing sun’s rays and optimize their water exposure.

Other marine creatures you can spot include graceful turtles, elusive moray eels, large lobsters and the aptly named black-spotted sweetlips fish, distinguished by their distinctive black spots and vibrant yellow lips.

Semer Island’s warm and tranquil waters offer the perfect conditions for year-round diving, with water temperatures averaging around 28°C.
