Located in the Jeddah region of Saudi Arabia, Sha’ab Nezar offers a diverse range of landscapes and marine life for divers and snorkellers of all skill levels. It features eight distinct dive sites, all of which are just a short distance away from the coast, making any one of these the perfect spot for a quick day trip or a spontaneous weekend getaway packed with action.
At Sha’ab Nezar, sloping reef walls, large canyon cracks and shipwrecked vessels are just some of the features adorning this mesmerising underwater topography. However, you’ll also have plenty of time to glide lazily along sandy plateaus, assimilating with the many varieties of marine life that live across this dive area.
While the vibrant hard and soft coral native to the Red Sea are undoubtedly the stars of the show, sites are also teeming with sweetlips, barracuda, nudibranch, red snapper, anthias, whitetip sharks and more. Divers can also expect to see starfish, groupers, butterflyfish, mackerel, jackfish, tuna
and Napoleon wrasses swimming among the reefs. And no matter which site you pick to visit, the range of visibility, between 12 and 35m, means you’ll have a stellar view of these
aquatic animals.
The relatively static temperature averages around 31°C at any point in the year, creating both a comfortable and rewarding diving experience. Where other regions have distinct dive seasons, most during warmer summer months, the year-round paradise of the Red Sea allows underwater explorers to take a dip at any time, largely unrestrained by changing weather conditions. The temperature also mean that divers will be more likely to see the marine life that thrive in these warm waters.
With depths ranging from 14 to 40m, Sha’ab Nezar offers something for everyone – whether you’re in the mood for tranquillity or something slightly more adventurous. And since the current is generally mild, with some sites having no current at all, this a great location for both beginner divers just starting out, as well as experienced divers looking to venture further afield.
The diverse range of landscapes, variety of difficulty levels and abundant marine life make Sha’ab Nezar an unforgettable diving experience in the crystal clear waters of the Red Sea. It is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to get away from the business of city life and explore the underwater world of Saudi Arabia’s Makkah region.
The Blotcheye soldierfish is known for its large eye, crimson colour and white-tipped fins. Inhabiting lagoons and seaward reefs, it hovers near caves and crevices during the day and emerges at night to hunt for small crabs and polychaetes, as well as shrimp and their larvae in the waters above the reef.
