Only a few minutes from its sibling, Sindalah island, Twin Sister is a fantastic option for snorkellers and scuba divers alike. The shallow depth, compact size and wide-open spaces are an excellent setting for Open Water courses, or for newly certified scuba divers looking to get comfortable with their skills.
The short speedboat ride also makes it well-suited for families and day-trippers, with a great chance to see schools of technicolour fish that reside in the shallows.
In the sandy patches, look carefully and you might see a bluespotted ribbontail ray playing hide and seek. These timid creatures tend to partially bury their bodies beneath the sand, allowing their vibrant blue spots to remain in view to warn off predators.
Marked by an idyllic lagoon with white sugar sand, the dive explores a shallow, flat reef wall where clusters of table coral provide shelter to varied reef fish. The easy-going conditions mean there’s plenty of time to get acquainted with the reef’s inhabitants, which include blackspotted sweetlips (also known as blackspotted rubberlips) and groupers.
While at the 20m mark, you might sight bluespotted eagle rays, which have a wingspan of up to 3m from tip to tip. While these graceful swimmers tend to give divers a wide berth, they make a spectacular sight, gliding through the water using their wide bodies, which look almost like a pair of wings.
